Valentine’s Day is coming to a near once again. It is celebrated every year on the 14th of February. It is known as a day of love and affection, and is celebrated by couples all over the world. Before you go and plan this special day with your loved one, do you know how this celebration began in the first place?
Valentine’s Day is actually short for Saint Valentine’s Day. It is named after several martyrs named Valentine. It was included in the Roman calendar of saints by Pope Gelasius I in 500 A.D. but was later on removed by Pope Paul VI in 1969. It wasn’t until during the High Middle Ages, the time that courtly love thrived, that Valentine’s Day was associated with romantic love.
At present, Valentine’s Day is associated with hearts and with Cupid. It is common to give flowers, chocolates, greeting cards, and other gifts during this special day. Couples often go out and celebrate together. While most people go all out and spare no expense in order to make their loved ones feel special, you should know that there are ways to spend Valentine’s without spending too much while still managing to show your love.
One way to show your love is by making breakfast in bed. Cook your partner’s favorite breakfast, throw in a bouquet of flowers, and a little love note. You can also go to your loved one’s workplace, surprise him or her with a basket of food or go out and eat lunch together.
Writing a poem is also sure to feel your loved one special. A poem expressing your feelings is one way to keep it sweet and simple on Valentine’s Day. If you’re not the poetic type, you can write a letter instead. Don’t be afraid to let him or her know about how you feel as your sincerity will definitely show.
It doesn’t matter how you celebrate Valentine’s Day as long as you’re with the person you love. No chocolate, jewelry, or any other material thing can be worth more than being with your special someone on this special day.
