Just How Pure Are Organic Products?

Holly Clegg by Holly Clegg

‘Organic’ is still a real buzzword, but just how pure are organic cosmetic products? The scary truth is that some may not be as wholesome as you think.

Firstly, the safety of otherwise effective organic cosmetic products cannot always be assured because of the lack of long-term safety tests conducted by their manufacturers. Despite the ‘No Side Effects’ tag attached to almost all cosmetic formulas, the research tests conducted by the Environmental Working Group detected traces of toxic chemicals in many reputed beauty products.

At the same time, those cosmetic products shouting ‘organic’ from the rooftops may not be as unadulterated as you’d like.

The key to true organic products is that everything inside is found naturally in nature. Herbal compositions are free from cancer-causing harmful chemicals because the ingredients are collected from natural herbs, botanicals, and minerals. Most of these herbal extracts are selected with a view to providing natural cures for sensitive skin types. Hence, ideally, manufacturers have to use preservatives without resorting to synthetic additives, to provide a pure and natural cosmetic formula.

In fact, manufacturers of organic products receive an ‘Organic Certification’ for their natural cures only when these are made from fruits and vegetables grown over a period of three years without the use of toxic substances like pesticides, insecticides and artificial flavors or colors. Because the certification does not encourage the use of genetically modified organisms in natural beauty products, the national standard has set stringent rules for organic labeling.

To ensure the safety factor of herbal beauty solutions, the FDA has gone one-step further by forcing organic product manufacturers to stick discreet warnings on cosmetic containers cautioning buyers of any harmful chemicals.

That’s because some so-called organic products use the active natural ingredients only in small quantities and substitute the rest with harmful preservatives like methyl, ethyl, propyl, and butyl parabens and artificial fragrances.

Studies have shown that chemical carcinogenic aromas could interfere with the body’s endocrine system, causing allergies and skin rashes as well as affect the central nervous system. Hence, you have to be extremely careful while buying low-priced herbal beauty products from just any company on the block. You must understand that pure natural cures do not even contain water and, hence, tend to charge a good price for their concentrated natural composition.

Even while buying organic products from reputed cosmetic brands, check out the ingredients lists for popular names like avocado oil, grape seed oil, passion fruit extract, and Japanese brown sea kelp.

When natural cures are delivered in their purest form, they not only nourish and protect sensitive skin but also rejuvenate the entire body through the trans-dermal absorption of bio-actives.

You can look younger, have a flawless skin and flaunt a radiant beauty if you ensure that the herbal beauty products you are using have an all-natural bio-available and biocompatible formulation. In this regard, you should like to know that the undiluted base of organic products is created by herbal and marine extracts for activating the skin cells, moisturizing, lifting and toning effects.

Unadulterated beauty products do not have an attractive flavor but chiefly smell of pure vegetable oils.

So the next time you are enjoying your beautiful-smelling organic cosmetics think again – and check the label.
